Women as real estate agents/brokerages

Real estate is one of the most recognized sectors and the second largest employer in India after agriculture or agronomy. For years, it has mostly been male-dominated where women have majorly remained unrepresented. However, since the past few decades, the industry has witnessed a formidable increase in the number of women who have taken up real estate as a profession and are working independently as agents.  Women now realize that the skills and expertise required to survive in the real estate industry is naturally inbuilt in them. According to NAR, the majority of realtors are women (63%). Just like their homes, women tend to bring an innate sense of warmth to the sector as multitasking is one of the most important traits required to be present in the real estate agent. Moreover, their sense of calmness and well-balanced viewpoint can make the buyers feel comfortable and assist them in making informed decisions.

Women as homebuyers

Gone are the days when real estate was majorly a male-dominated industry. But, today women are fast-catching up and breaking the stereotypes. The sector, just like the rest of the other terrains, is increasingly witnessing the presence of women homebuyers who are putting themselves upfront in making a purchase decision. Whether single or married, Indian women are increasingly becoming financially strong and independent, especially in metropolitan cities such as Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai. Besides, with more and more women stepping forth in the industry, the banks, developers and even the Government are coming up with initiatives to make real estate a lucrative market for women.

Women as developers

Real estate is a growing and thriving industry. Interestingly, women are breaking the gender stereotypes and stepping into this male-dominated field by pushing to establish more senior roles for themselves in the commercial/residential real estate, an area where they are severely underrepresented. Moreover, the next generation of female entrepreneurs is steadily accepting real estate as a promising and possible career opportunity. Talking about the challenges faced by women in the field of real estate, there was a common perception that women in the real estate business are for a part-time job. Therefore, the realty sector is not considered conducive for women. However, the scenario has changed as of now. There is an increased acceptance of women in leadership roles as more and more women are taking up top managerial positions.

In conclusion

Women always have great love and passion for their work, but like any other job or industry, they face many challenges daily. This is one of the major reasons why female potential in real estate is largely being felt and recognized worldwide…
